She has received three letters, handed to her by a Chinese man, which warn her to return her fabulous diamond jewel, the “Western Star”, to where it came from – the left eye of an idol – before the next full moon. Her husband, Gregory Rolf, who bought it from a Chinese man in San Francisco, gave Mary the jewel three years ago.

The very first Agatha Christie short story is a excellent read! Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings get involved in another mystery when they are called upon by a Miss Marie Marvell. She has received threatening letters from someone who wants her necklace, thus named the Western Star. Her husband, Gregory Rolf, bought her the necklace three years ago. Error in Amazon listing I really enjoy Hugh Fraser’s audiobooks of the Agatha Christie stories so I was interested to hear his rendition of this Christie short story. However, upon playing this audiofile it was David Suchet, not Fraser, who was the narrator. That may sound like a pleasant surprise, since Suchet does such a good job as TV’s Poirot, but I have been disappointed before in Suchet’s audiobooks and this was no different.
