Whistlers Mom says:

If you only read ONE Hercule Poirot, this should be the one. Even if you’re not really an Agatha Christie fan, you should read this one. Christie is criticized as a literary light-weight. It’s true that her characters are formulaic, but she wasn’t really interested in characters. Her specialty was intricate, multi-layered puzzles and no one did them better. This book and AND THEN THERE WERE NONE are her trickiest and she spoke of both as her most difficult to “pull off” effectively.

Brenda Telford says:

Intriguing! Dr Shephard and his sister Caroline had a new neighbour â?? a little man who loved to grow vegetables in his retirement. When Mrs Ferrars’ death followed her husbandâ??s, Caroline was decidedly suspicious. And everyone knew Caroline was able to ferret out the truth. But the murder of Roger Ackroyd shocked everyoneâ?¦

Joyce says:

Extremely good! Pay attention to every detail in this book or you will be reading the last chapter and saying to yourself, “Why didn’t I see that?” A household full of people, a locked ( ?) room, a butler, an absent nephew and of course, household staff make this an interesting case. Are the police looking for a killer or an innocent man? Who was the man that the doctor passed on his way out? Who had been meeting that night? Who was the murdered man talking to in his office after the doctor left?
